They have also changed how the doors are hinged. I don't like it. If anything, I would have gone with hinges at the top with spring supports, like Parkliner.

ParkLiners don't come with spring supports, some owners (like us) go to quite a bit of trouble to add them! But boy, once they're in, ya can't beat 'em.

Hi: Roger C H... I didn't see Tom Young at Bolerama this year, but I did meet a nice couple from Michigan with their brand new SideKick.
It was probably financially beneficial for Tom to sell the rights to Great West Vans, as it was beneficial for GWV. to spin off the trailer Mfg. and move it south.

I spoke with the owner of Great West Vans recently. Great West Vans bought Trillium around 2012, I believe that Tom joined Great West. Great West is a Winnipeg-owned business. They were manufacturing the Trillium Sidekick in Winnipeg until their pipes froze at the end of March 2014. They have since re-located the manufacturing for their US market to Winfield Alabama. It takes time to do a move and a start-up of operations. They also have an idea of beginning a small-scale manufacturing of the Trillium Sidekick in Winnipeg to serve the Canadian market. That's all to the best of my understanding. What I find so interesting is that the Trillium is a direct descendant of the Boler, which of course started in Winnipeg, and now has come full circle, sort of.

trillium....gotta love it! we have an '04 outback by team trillium from calgary and just love that the trillium logo is on our door. the newer models don't seem to have it (guess that goes back to those legal issues when tom and joe split up)....but coming originally from ontario, having the trillium emblem on our osokozy is HUGE to us.

Who said that? Not sure how it can be a direct descendant. The commonalities are molded fiberglass, made in Canada and use stock RV appliances.

Trillium had on its web site the following: “Demand in the industry has moved us into manufacturing a trailer based on the popular Boler trailer of the 1970s, except with the latest technology. The new trailer is called the Outback”. In 2014, Trillium is moving from Calgary to Winfield, Alabama and the new name for their trailer is the Sidekick. Their web site says: “Sidekick is the direct descendent of the original Trillium trailer of Markham (Toronto) Ontario, Canada.”

So I guess we could discuss whether "based on" and "direct descendant" are the same thing; I think they are, but I can see how some might feel "based on" is not the same thing.

Sounds like marketing hype to me. "Direct descendent" ought to mean a continuity of ownership and/or designs and molds with the original company. I'd consider Outback and Sidekick direct descendants of Trillium, but no link to Boler (other than layout and molded FG construction).

Here is some very recent copy from Great West. The Trillium trefoil logo is prominent on the door mould. When you search "trillium" on Kijiji in NS there is a dealer advertising as the only dealer east of Montreal. Trillium is still with us.

Ok I have a question concerning these FGs.... I went over and read the "history" I always heard that Casita was a "split" from Scamp...family-wise. Does anyone know if this is true? I own a 2010 13' Scamp.

There IS one small tid-bit in the history that states that the Casita originated from Backus.... Not that it matters, but it is interesting history on all of these trailers.

Darral, Google "Boler history" on this site. There is a very interesting (if convoluted and occasionally misleading) thread on the Boler and its various offshoots. Worth a read!

And yes, there was a family split.

Some of what we know in this and many other threads is hearsay. Some of it is factual. Just because we read it on the internet, does not make it so.

We've had people come in saying they know the story because they are family of an original manufacture, only to come back acknowledging some of the details that have been collected. Getting details from a senior about what happened 40 or 45 years ago, can be difficult at best.

I don't know what ever happened to Matt H., he had gone across the country interviewing many people to get to the root of things for his documentary. He suddenly disappeared. I often wonder about him, hoping something serious has not happened to him.

As for the current Trillium story, Tom Young will let us know when the time is right. Until then, I consider everything posted here speculation.

This thread is one of the most interesting I've stumbled on! Maybe I'm a bit convoluted myself, but this is almost as good as a murder mystery.

Of course it's not as important as tire care and other safety discussions on the road, but now that I've read through this, NOT knowing EXACTLY how/when/where is VERY intriguing!

Maybe a "family" member will step up one day and write us all a book called "The Egg Mystery- SOLVED".
