U Haul ?

Being new to this. I see U Haul trailers. I don't want to sound like a moron, but can someone tell me what's up ! Were these actual rentals from U haul ? I've never seen one.

Uhaul had them built in 1984, '85, and maybe into '86. Rented them until about 1992 and then sold them. There were about 1700 of the smaller CT13 and only 49 of the larger VT16 made.

Quality!! They were well built for the rental market but also have their issues, which are fixable but can be challenging and frustrating. If you are interested in buying one I strongly suggest that you join the Uhaul facebook group (you have to be accepted by an administrator) then in the "files" section at the top of the page is a thread about "common problems" that has good information about what to look for or expect. Lots of good info in the files. Owners and repair manuals plus parts info, also found in the document section here. There are trailers out there that are in very good condition, some not so good, and many have had modifications and upgrades so it's hard to make a general statement about their condition after 30 years of use, (and rental abuse).

I'm realizing that many owners or sellers are not aware of some of the issues with their trailers. So I wouldn't say that any sellers are intentionally not revealing problems or issues on what they are selling, they just don't know about them. Where in NY are you Neck?

If I buy used I need turn key. I just don't have the time to do any repairs. The little time I do have, I want to be out on the road. That's why I asked when they made these. It might be hard to find one turn key since there all over 20 years old. I don't know if I'm correct in saying, I think Scamp might be one of the lightest out there. I from The Bronx but now live in the north western part of the state near Binghamton.

I think you're right on finding one in turn key condition, but it may be possible.

I think I might stick with a Scamp. They also seem to be the lightest. It will be easy to find a turn key one. I'm semi retired now and next year my wife is leaving her second job. So we will have a lot more time to travel. She works three 12's in an ER and 3 8's in a Pharmacy. She's a keeper. LOL That"s why I have to keep my end of the deal. MUST have bath and shower! Other then that I have full clearance ! LOL

Have you been inside a Scamp 13 yet Neck? I'm just over the border in PA south of Binghamton. If you want, we might be able to arrange for you and your wife to see ours. Although ours is currently waiting to move into position for some serious work over the winter, as soon as I move 35 truckloads of wood from the farm to the house. If you're going to wait to order anyway, you can see it in the early spring. I know there's not a lot of them in this area, mine is the only one I've seen in a long time.
