Unlikely Visitors to your Campsite.

I have seen a lot of things while camping and have had a few visitors from time to time.This one really caught me off guard.It was a Duck just strolling around.Have any of you had visitors that you never expected?

The perpetrator is saying, "You guys stand back or the big guy gets it."

A few years back while camping at General Burnside Island Kentucky State Park.
We had some unexpected four legged vistors. Skunks!
Lot and lots of them! BIG ones! All over the island. I guess they can't figure out how to use the bridge to get off.

We were there a week and they seemed to be ok with campers, but not their dogs.

They walk out between your legs when you are sitting outside in the evening.
You can just shoo them off like a cat, but it's pretty un-nerving.
We got a whiff one night after someones dog made a huge racket.

It's a nice place but the wife says never again.

We had a skunk come right into our camp tent camping up near Cloudcroft, NM as well as an owl fly through at another time. Moose walking by in Yellowstone, raccoons visiting in Cloudcroft and in Sugarite State Park up by Raton, NM as well as turkey, javilina walking by and through the campgrounds in Big Bend, hummingbirds in several campgrounds, deer up at Mesa Verde, and chip munks in several places, plus jackrabbits and road runners at Elephant Butte State Park, NM. So many other birds, which we really like see as well.

When I was a teenager, I went on a backpacking trip with my brothers in Rocky Mountain National Park We hiked back to a lake to fish and set up camp. Our "tent" was a leanto tarp stretched between a couple of trees. In the middle of night I awoke from a dream that my brothers had put an anvil on my chest. When I opened my eyes, I was staring at a porcupine sleeping on my chest with his nose in my face to stay warm . I don't think I will ever forget that!!!!

We had this little hummingbird at Rocky Mountain Park last week. We put out the feeder. It was a riot to watch, because he staked it out as his and chased away all other hummingbirds that flew within 5 feet. He perched in a nearby branch and guarded it.

In 2002 we were camping at Lopez Lake... Mike and Lori held the rally and we had visitors. Lots of them.

Bears in Yellowstone, moose and wolves in the Big Horn Mountains (back woods area), elk in Rocky Mountain NP (they ate the Taco Bell lesftovers right off of the picnic table in the next sight), and about 40 Hells Angels in Steam Boat Springs. This was all on the same trip and my kids bring it up whenever talking about traveling.
