Veterans camping group - SMART

At our last Kansas Casita Get-together (now called The Kansas Egg-stravaganza ) we sort of surrounded a couple of 5th wheels. Sherwin was very neighborly and was quite interested in getting out information about a Veterans camping group. I promised to pass the info along, so after much procrastination here it is.

Tom and Joyce, it was great to have met you and the Casita Club members at Milford Lake. It is always fun to get together with old friends, and find new friends along the way.

WHAT IS S.M.A.R.T.?
SMART is a recreational vehicle [RV] social club for active, retired and HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS and spouses, including reservist and National Guard, from all the uniformed services.

S.M.A.R.T. [SPECIAL MILITARY ACTIVE RETIRED & Honorably Discharged Veterans Travel Club] was formed in 1984. We now have about 2,000 members nationwide with 52 chapters divided into 8 Regions.

We have a Regional Muster each spring and our National Muster is in the fall. Each Chapter will have local musters during the camping seasons and will meet at other locations during the off season camping. Most all chapters will hold a Thanksgiving and a Xmas party. We help out with many military Base Fam Camp clean up and org. Most of all we all enjoy getting together to see old friends.

Sounds like a great group. I take it that is "US Veterans"? I would be happy to update the title.

Regards,

Matt

As far as I know it is for US veterans. However, since the recent change from a club for military retirees to one open to all honorably discharged vets, did make me eligable to join, I have not yet done so.

I did get a note from Stielow stating that S.M.A.R.T. had a new website.

"NOTE: Our National website has changed to: www.smartrving.org"

If Canadian Veterans were interested, I suggest they make contact with the idea of starting a similar club. Then the two organizations could work out a joint muster or something.

Tom

Thanks for the link. I confirmed on the BecomeMember page that club membership accepts veterans from US, Canada and SEATO/NATO member nations.

Regards,

Matt
