SOHO San Diego is holding a big event over the weekend of May 18-20. One small part is a "Vintage Trailer Show".
Quote:
[b]Vintage Trailer Show
A Home Tour on Wheels
10am-6pm
Venue sponsored by Liberty Station

This is a fun & fascinating way to view the style of past eras. Private owners showcase an array of trailers built from the 1940's through the 60's. These uniquely American artifacts are a study in design. This exhibition will delight fans of retro Americana and devotees of the car culture of mid-century America.
I contacted the organisation and got my Fiber Stream included in the show!
They'll have a fiberglass unit to compare all those stickies to.

Sounds like fun. The only problem I can see is that the more we show our trailers, more and more people will want them. This will be good for selling but bad for buying, the prices will keep going up.

Liberty Station is the name of the new development that was built on the old Naval Recruit Training Center (Boot Camp). There will be 13 trailers set up in a parking lot next to the building the other exhibits will be in.

If you notice, The USS Recruit (A.K.A. USS Neversail) which was preserved when NTC was torn down, will be the backdrop.

I was asked to also deploy my solar panels during the show, and answer questions about their use. Several of the other presenters are comming from a distance, and we'll be boondocking in our trailers through the weekend.

Don't forget to shoot a couple pictures of your egg surrounded by those old sticks, and post them here. I'd love to see that.

from the co-ordinator:
Quote:
If you have any accessories or camping gear you use with the trailer
that are the same vintage as the trailer or earlier, please include
those in your setup if possible. We would like each coach to be
"period appropriate" in its setup, i.e., using chairs, tables,
dishes, etc. that would have been available at the time the trailer
was first manufactured, or would still have been in use from an
earlier period.
Quote:
I was just looking at one of your photos again, and saw you have an
solar unit on the ground beside it. If that is a working solution
would you bring it? Great PR for "going solar" etc., would just be
very cool to have there -- plus you might want to use it, since we
have no power there.

Frederick, aren't you the one with the "Trailer Trash" wastebasket? It may not be of the appropriate vintage but it is cute. Be sure and put it out where it can be appreciated!

Bonnie Poppe, the co-ordinator of the Trailer show says that there is room in the show for additional fiberglass trailers, and it's not too late to join the show. 13 trailers are signed up, (several Teardrops, an Airstream Caravelle, a "Canned Ham" type...) and there is room for 20. She would especially like to hear from owners of 13' trailers (the older, the better) in the San Diego area. Mine is on the verge of being too new, but it's design and styling won them over.

This from the show staff:
Quote:
[b]Dear Vintage Trailer Show Participant,
You are asked to arrive on Friday between 12:30 and 4:30 PM. This will allow for time to set up the trailer and be ready for [b]the exhibition on Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM and again on Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Breakdown may begin after 4 PM on Sunday.
They want all of the trailers set up in time for the OPENING NIGHT RECEPTION, held in the adjacent Building 623, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM Friday night.

I'm staying late cleaning the trailer after work all week.
Wax on. Wax off.

We have Wifi!

There was a lot of competition for participants with Vintage Vacations' Newport Dunes rally also being held this weekend. So they relaxed the rules to let me in.

Linda is here with her RED Hunter I.
So there are 2 fiberglass trailers on display.

There are 5 teardrops
1 Airstream
1 Dalton
1 1946 Home-made "Canned Ham"
1 60's Chevrolet Corvair Van camper
1 Fiber Stream
1 Hunter
