Sam would like to know more about this guide and where you purchased it.

The book is called 'Traveler's Guide to Alaskan Camping' 6th edition by mike and Terri church.

I picked it up at Monroe's books in the Victoria BC but I'm guessing you can order it online or pick it up at chapters as well I just prefer the independent bookstores

CB radios are a good idea for a caravan, so you can contact each other. We went with 7 scamps and used our CB's and it worked out great.

I can't help with a 2016 trip - we are on our way to Alaska at the moment. Will be crossing into Canada at Portal, ND tomorrow. We are a caravan of two - my Escape 17 & my friends Don & Anne in their Scamp 16. We do keep in touch with other on the road with CBs...

Start date and the first meeting place?

Hi,
Have you set the start time of the Alaska trip and the first meeting place?
I would like to know if you have planned how many average miles you plan to travel
each day.

We have made the trip before but may be interested in going again.

We have not made plans as of yet and don't know when/if we will. I don't necessarily want to be the ultimate planner/organizer of a trip but might be interested in joining others who have made plans for a caravan to Alaska.

Does anyone know of someone, not a commercial venture, who is planning a caravan to Alaska next spring/summer?

Many thanks.

Alaska to Florida in September

We are touring Alaska now. We will likely take the Cassiar Highway on our return.

Please send notes about your trip on this forum. If you have a blog or other way you are staying in touch, please let us know. You might want to start a new thread so others can "follow you".

As it turns out, we may be going to Alaska next summer.

I posted earlier in this thread when we were on the road in June & July, 2015. Here is a link to the journal of the trip.

We had a great time really enjoyed Denali & watching the bears at Hyder (along the Cassier).

I used Churches book more than the Milepost, and also found the handout we picked up at the Visitor Center in Dawson Creek very useful - it lists fuel stops, campgrounds, etc by the milepost.

2015 was probably our best summer on record... but 2016 is giving it a run for its money. Even the fabled Haul Road to the north coast has been seeing glorious weather in the 70's and 80's. If you haven't made it up here yet, I do highly recommend it!
