waxing and waning

Although planned for weeks and weeks I finally was able to wax our new Escape.
First there was a glitch with our Amazon order that included the Maguire's fiberglass wax. The entire order was apparently lost! When that was resolved and re-ordered about 2 additional weeks passed.

Then the weather did not cooperate with cold, windy and loads of rain for weeks. Yesterday we had a cool, overcast but dry day so I re-washed our Escape. Today was forecast to be in the mid-70s, partly sunny and dry. With the very cool days and our lake still being warmer there was fog overnight. By mid-morning the fog had lifted but our Escape was sodden!

I spent an hour drying the Escape and began waxing. Phew, long reach to the center of the roof compared to the Scamp. So while my plan seemed to be waxing and waning I finally finished.





The only exterior addition we have made was our Michigan sticker on the back.





I have opted NOT to winterize with RV antifreeze and will run the cube heater and keep the water heater on set to very low. Since we will be on the road in ~4 weeks I did not want to deal with RV antifreeze at our first stop so we would have drinking water.

Our winter escape from Michigan with our new Escape will be great.

Nice looking trailer Bruce. You could drain the water heater, antifreeze in the traps and gray & black tanks, and blow out the water lines for a little extra freeze protection. That way no antifreeze in the drinking water.

Put me down as a little paranoid, I run a box heater all winter long AND also winterize the trailer too! Winterizing an Escape is really not much work, pulling the anode on the water heater is a good idea anyway as it may be gone or nearly gone.

I do struggle with winter as we tend to head south sometime in the winter (FL or whatever) where we need to de-winterize the trailer, and then re-winterize before we get home. I bought a small, cheapie air compressor from Harbor Freight just for this purpose (be sure to turn the pressure down!!)

Nothing like a clean and shiny trailer. I also just waxed the Scamp in a rare burst of warm New England weather. A good wax job is a very satisfying thing!

Waxing our Casita seemed to take all day and was a PITA. A couple of years ago I read Check this out NOT Poliglow...Time will tell.. On our massively dull Bigfoot I cleaned with Zep cleaner and then waxed with Zep wax. It took less than 6 hours the first time including three waxings with Zep. I'll never wax and buff again.

We get our Escape 5.0 TA on October 26. When it comes time to wax I'll go with the Zep products again.
