What is your favorite Catalog?
I just got my L.L.Bean “Guide to Christmas” catalog.
So what catalogs do you get and enjoy?

Way way too many to list.
Probably to most used, as in order from, are REI, and Lee Valley Hardware.

Mike,
An appropo question ! Just yesterday I ordered a jacket from LL Bean catalog which was sent to us in the mail. First time I have ordered anything from here, but judging from Judy's post it will probably turn out to be a good purchase. Don't know if it will be my favorite catalog though. In fact, don't know if I have any favorites. At least not yet. Don

1. Lee Valley
Although Garrett Wade figures a close second in this class.
2. Mouser
Sent a lot of money their way. I want an oscilloscope although I haven't figured out what I'll do with it yet. Their paper catalog is as thick as a NYC 'phone book and new one arrives every quarter.
3. Small Parts
Probably too expensive, but where else can you buy one of something usually only available in bulk.

My fav would be "American Science & Surplus".
I'm a sucker for wierd stuff.
Close runners up:
Johnson Smith (fond memories of their ads in comic books as a kid)
JC Whitney (for trailer and bike accessories)

Being from Oklahoma, we like the kind with easy to tear out pages, no too many glossy pages.
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
Another fan of Cabela's and Bass Pro, Camping World to see what new gadgets are coming out.

Morgan: I'm telling ya baby, that's not mine.
Quartermaster Clerk: One warranty card for Victoria's Secret Catalog, filled out by Morgan.

To get Mike's thread back into a serious vein, my favorite catalogs are on the internet. I don't like printed catalogs although they can save some tissue money.
My least favorite catalog, however, is Harbor Freight.
I do purchase from Harbor Freight on occasion, but only if it's something I need and I don't care about quality.
You have to be extremely careful ordering from them, they have the same item at more than one price. They usually send out a flyer with 3 or 4 sheets stapled around it and those sheets offer 50% off.
A case in point: the latest flyer has an air nailer item number 40115-7CHB for 1/2 price, $19.99. In the main body of the circular, they have the same nailer item number 40115-3CHH for $39.99. If you miss the one on the front page and order from page 47, you pay the full price.
Caveat emptor.

Morgan has a really good point about catalog ordering. I just typically won't do it any more. Catalogs usually go straight from the mailbox to the recycle bin at our house. Any company who asks "what catalog number are you ordering from" so they can figure out which prices they have on what item is a red flag for me.
On-line shopping really gives the consumer the opportunity to find the best prices on items from companies who have the best customer service records. I buy a lot of photo 'stuff' and prices vary wildly, but many of the low-ball companies have TERRIBLE customer service as well.
I hope that the day of the paper catalog is close to being over.

Catalogues clutter my mailbox and go directly to the recycling bin - I hate 'em! Cabela's is the worst, with a catalog every other week. But if you want a lesson in frustration, just try to get off their mailing list!
Online catalogues are fine, and you only get 'em when you want 'em.

I agree that it is a waste to print unwanted catalogs, and I rely on on-line sources, but on the other hand that can be frustrating. The Coast catalog at Go-RV, for instance, is only available a page at a time, and I would certainly spend some time flipping through it and learning what is available if I could download one big file, or get it on paper.
I don't know if you would call the Dexter Axle literature a "catalog", but it is a great source of information about their products, complete with specific part numbers for ordering.

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.
