We try to stay home on Holiday weekends... Toooo much traffic-- campgrounds tooo crowded. Ideal for us is during the week at empty campground, or even better yet "stealth camping" at a free spot, i.e. USFS, State Land, etc. Larry

Totally agree, camping on holiday weekends is brutal... generally I work the holiday and switch it with another friday or monday on an off holiday weekend.

Prefer the quiet weekends closer to the shoulder season. Less traffic and fewer crazies out. Then again we seldom go out on weekends, weekdays usually.

We have been lucky and have been able to do most of our camping without having to hit the holidays. Teaching gives a lot of time off in the summers. But we have often been out on vacations during the 4th of July. Often it has been in Na'l parks or in western states or even in Canada and not a problem. Once it was in California and would have been a problem but we found an old room mate living there and stayed by them.

When the kids were home those holidays were fun for them.
Now that it's just us two, we prefer no crowds and quietness.
The last few holidays we camped were just insane, rowdy messes.
I was glad to go home at the end.

Too Crowded - hardly ever camp on the holidays. It is a shame because I feel like I'm wasting a 3-day weekend - may be time to look into dispersed camping and other, hopefully less traveled locations.

I've found that New Years when associated with a week-end is good.

My favorite camping week is during the Thanksgiving holiday. I take the entire week off and head out well before the rest of the word hits the road for the holiday. Most of the campgrounds are virtually empty and I do not associate this holiday as much with DUI drivers as I would on holidays like the 4th of July or New Year's. I camp to find solitude and enjoy the outdoors, so crowded campsites are never on my agenda.

For the last two Thanksgivings I camped out of Yuma in a campground well off the beaten path along the Colorado River. There were a number camping groups out and several had quite the Thanksgiving setup. . . deep frying turkeys and cooking the entire spread outdoors. Other families chose to cook part of their feast at home and pack it in dry ice. I enjoy seeing the ways in which people adapt their holiday to the outdoor lifestyle. It was also nice seeing so many people enjoying the holiday the way our ansestors did and was by no means crowded in any way, shape, or form.

Many years ago I camped at Canyon de Chelly in Arizona during Thanksgiving week. What a treat! Although it was cold the scenery was spectacular and we had it all to ourselves! We were able to drive out onto the redrock cliffs and listen to a CD of Native American flute music echoing across the rocks, while I practiced Tai Chi out on the cliffs high above the canyon. It was one of the most memorable experiences in my life.

Yeah, Thanksgiving week is certainly my favorite time to camp. . . but don't tell anyone else!

As a Full Timer and retiree, I didn't like any of the holiday weekends!! Actually, I do like them as long as I have already gotten MY campsite -- I enjoy seeing people, kids and pets having fun!

We spend both Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends in the Palm Springs, CA driveway of a friend of ours to help with the parties he throws. It's the best of both worlds: we're out in the trailer, but away from the crowded campgrounds.

We stay home on the 4th of July.

We like going camping before or after the holidays. It's so much more peaceful at the campgrounds. The 4th is more fun at home with a backyard BBQ and fireworks at City Park.

I replied to "None of the above".
We always tried to go the week before the holiday so that we we're driving home when all the heavy traffic was heading out.

We avoid holidays, leave the space for the folks who are still working. We don't miss the traffic.

Our local RV club usually has a campout on Thanksgiving. It is an outing for us retirees who may not have family within 1,000 miles. We get a group camping area, have turkey dinner and a big bon fire and tell jokes and lies, and roast marshmallows.

I stay home on holidays. Campgrounds are crowded, and it is quiet and peaceful at home sitting by the campfire in my own back yard.

Any weekend, any weather, any crowd. A bad weekend camping is better than a good weekend at hone.

No Ron, a bad weekend camping is better than a good weekend at WORK. I would have gone camping with any of you folks this past Memorial Day weekend, rain and all.
