Windy
Very often weather news provides little valuble information. There is an app at Windy.com that provides excellent information on wind and weather. It contains a wealth of information on world wide air flow in a simple format.
For example there is a huge Irma sized high pressure area off of Nova Scotia. (you can tell its high pressure because it rotates in a clockwise direction.)
Any where you touch on the map it tells weather for today and going forward. I've only had it two days but can see its value, information that doesn't come over the news.

wind...
if you mean the site illustrated below....I came across it a couple of weeks ago....it's impressive alright and worldwide....I am still trying to verify its accuracy....following it on Sunday, it did seem to report lower wind values in the FLA region than what was being reported on TV (every ten minutes!)....will keep checking it for accuracy OUTSIDE of hurricane conditions.....good site

Franswa...
Of course the purpose of TV weather is to keep you watching, not really provide information.
Windy provides actual information.
We've been using TV information to determine our route to Florida and the weather reports have continuously had Irma's track wrong. They seem to know where it's going when it gets there.

And to think, weather is one of the more accurate areas of TV info lately...

Mike.. I don't want this to degrade into a discussion of news honesty. WeathermYhave the best record, possibly because they mostly deal with today. Their ability to predict tomorrow's weather is far from golden.
However, the point is the app is very good. I was surprised to see wave height, more surprised to see wave period.
The more time I spend with Windy the more I find.

I followed NOAA's storm surge site throughout Irma and most of the time wind speeds were 2/3 to 1/2 what I was hearing on television for the same locations.

No matter what television station you watch or weather app you use they all get their primary information from NOAA. Different computer models interpret the information differently but the information all comes from NOAA.

Windy
Norm and Ginny,
I discovered Windy.com about 2 weeks ago, and have been fascinated by it as well! I appreciated having the 3 models forecasting the path Irma would take. I believe the European model was the most accurate. I also think it could be a source of good weather information when planning trips . . .

So what does 150/6kt mean?
Just got a warning from Windy.com saying that a Russian website was cannibalizing their website when I simply did a web search for it and the Windy.com was only available as an app.
