Winter Is Coming

Kevin K reported heavy snow in Minneapolis. We are home from Wisconsin in the extreme northeastern part of Iowa. Extreme meaning Wisconsin and Minnesota are minutes away. So far just rain but our oldest arrived at our rented cabin for awhile north of Green Bay last night from Minneapolis and said it was snowing when he left. Minor detail since your driving a 15 year old truck with 256,000 miles on it and it made it as it always does. I keep gluing the dang plate together.

It's finally cool enough here in Pensacola to enjoy camping again! We spent last weekend at Big Lagoon State Park and enjoyed highs in the mid 70s and nighttime lows that allowed us to actually sleep under a couple of blankets!

I need a sticking out my tongue smilie . Actually it's just jealousy talking. Sigh, winterized the Scamp last weekend and it's in bed now until April. Yeah, I know I could go camping in the winter... lots of people do. I just rather stay home with a fire burning in the fireplace...

I was sticking out my tongue last week - to catch snow flakes! We just got back to the flat lands from two months as camp hosts east of Mount Shasta @ 4,000'. We had over 4 inches of snow last week, and two inches the week before. When I started hosting in early Sept. the AM temps were in the mid 30s. Last week they got down to 27F. We were snug and warm in the Stream...

Hard to rationalize - today in Santa Cruz it was 77F and may get down into the low 50s tonight. Hard to believe - early winter in Nor-Cal no winter in Cent-Cal.

Hi: All...Here on the North Shore we've had very frosty morns...but NO SNOW!!! It is a four letter word you know. We are on the same lattitude as Nor. Cal. but the great lakes have an effect on us.

Enjoying the view out the kitchen window with the sun shining on the freash snow on the top of the mountain behind me. Weather man says it could come down to my house level this week-end. Love seeing the snow up on the hill as it means a good ski season but hate it when it makes its occasional visit to my house. If I wanted snow in my yard I would move to Alf's province where the city road crews actually own snow plows! :-)

Scamp put to bed and sleeping soundly.

When we lived in Montana last winter I think they used the snowplows there more often to scrape the sugar beets off the highway then to move snow.

Typical of W. WA; wet! Had a windstorm go thru last night; winds to 60 mph but mostly on the West Sound region. Had a 4.2 quake down by Mossyrock this morning. Supposed to be getting cold air out of BC later this week, but only mountain snow.

Been mild enough that grandson was picking a few blueberries Sunday.

My favorite camping and ATV riding area is about to be buried under at least 2 feet of snow this weekend. The first major storm of the year is about to hit the area.
I took some pics of my favorite place 2 days ago. The snow covered road is about 5 or 6 miles from where I park my Scamp. The sunny area with the fire pit is at the end of the snow covered road to no where and where I have spent the night with just my sleeping bag during the summer.
I'm going to miss my road to nowhere until at least next April or May.
I'm not complaining, where I live we get maybe an inch of snow 2 or 3 times a year.
Hang in there all you snow bound folks, spring will be here sooner than you think.
John
