Would you buy a Boler without seeing it for yourself?

I am itching to buy a Boler...

There are 2 for sale in my area:

1972 Boler (Green) - $4600

1977 Boler (Yellow) - $5200

I've seen the Yellow one (45 mins away) - it's good but there are 3 leaks...and it needs a good cleaning. Otherwise, everything works, it hasn't been modified much or painted and it needs inspected in July.

I haven't seen the Green Boler (4 hours away) but I'm tempted to buy it without seeing it. I talked to the seller a couple of times and it "sounds" like a good one.

Am I crazy to send my Dad (1 hour away) to go buy it for me???

Has anyone bought a camper without checking it out first?

What should I ask my Dad to look for?

Which one should I buy?

Melanie

You should buy the one you want. I couldn't possibly tell you which one that should be. I wouldn't let some fiberglass cracks prevent me from buying, nor a low axle, nor a few leaks. I WOULDN'T buy if any of those things have caused additional problems like a rotted floor, cracked frame, etc. And, I often prefer my own themes over someone else's decorating.

You really need to print out and take the Buyers Check List when you view a trailer... then you can comparison shop.

Best of luck

I bought my Burro without seeing it first.

I just went into the deal not 100% assuming there would be problems but certainly resolving to be unsurprised when repair issues cropped up that were not part of the purchase discussion with the seller.

I counted on having to fix window leaks and doing a bunch of cosmetic stuff. I knew I'd want to update the wiring and add brakes. I didn't completely anticipate the wet spongy floor and that required sending it away to fix but I filed that under "stuff not to be surprised about."

I would think very long and hard about the Green one, and send someone I trust to look at it who would pass it up if something major were wrong. The Yellow one is way overpriced for what it is, especially when compared to the Green one.

YMMV

Kevin - What do these prices look like to you? You probably have a better idea than I do as I've just started looking. Any advice on what I should expect to pay in Nova Scotia?

Just looking at the pictures I would say the yellow one is a little overpriced. Green one looks pretty good and the price seems to be in the right ball park.

Just keep reminding yourself that for some reason, pictures make things look at least 10-15% better than in reality. I'd send Dad with the checklist to look at the green one. It looks like someone put some effort into it, lessening the odds of neglect.

Every camper I've purchased in past 5 years, (5 of them), were purchased sight unseen, from internet pictures. I had no issues with the seller representing a bad trailer. One was 1400 miles away!

Obviously...I'm a big chicken! Wow, I'm surprised people are willing to take such a gamble. And I do trust my Dad...

We bought our Uhaul from pix. We bought it from ebay while someone was discussing it on this forum. In the world of fiberglass, you snooze, you lose (not meaning to be rude). Leaks are fixable.

The green one seems to be sitting better than the yellow...

It looks as if the yellow has a furnace and fridge...

Do they both have newish MVI stickers?

Sun shades?

I would let the condition of the frame and axle be your deciding factor.

But I would lean towards the green because: sitting better, and it is cheaper...$600 will go along way towards gas money and camping fees.

Try not to show your excitement...i know it is hard to hide!!

that is because it is up on supports. I like the green interior wood but it appears the yellow has a refer and dual propane and the green just an ice box.

Lost the green one!

Someone got there before me...shoot...wasted $7.50 on a bank draft too! I'm over it...kinda .

The yellow one is still for sale...the inspection is due in July.

Look at it or send someone you trust with the check list. The check list helped me knock $700 of the asking price of the Ventura I just bought. I would never buy anything without looking first.

Buy it! I bought mine a year ago this week, and even though I had to learn to tow, back up, find a great mechanic and do minor repairs, I've never regretted buying it. Everything is fixable. You could offer a little less if that's what comparable Bolers are going for, or if you think there might be a costly repair or two. Right off, you need to grease the wheel bearings, throughly inspect the frame for rust, and check the electrical and propane. It takes a while to figure everything out, but once you do, you'll understand why these little trailers are just the best camping vehicle out there. If I was closer, I'd go with you! Enjoy! Jamie
