yeti cooler discount.....

Yeti is famous for not letting any retailer sell their coolers for less than a specified price.

Even stores like Dunham's that offer coupons state in the fineprint yetis are excluded.

But I did find them on sale yesterday.

Gander Mountain is closing a lot of stores. Apparently the chain has been bought by Camping World.

Anyway, clerks were busy marking everything down 10%, including the yetis.

Fellow I talked to said prices would go down as the sale continued but I imaging yetis would move pretty quickly.

I have a cupboard in my Compact Jr perfect for a yeti 35q but just cannot bring myself to spend $299 (now down to $269).

What I am usually chilling is a quart of skimmed milk, a pound of bologna and a bottle of mustard.

it would take a long time to recoup the investment!

Plus I imagine they are a magnet to thieves.

I buy only the finest all-beef bologna!

and I too love it fried, with Miracle Whip or mayo.

I'm just not big into camp cooking. it's usually cereal for breakfast, maybe instant oatmeal, sandwich for lunch, and if there is a campfire i'll go for a hot dog or make a burger on the little propane grill.

Sounds like my kind of camper.

Spent 10 weeks around AZ this winter, I had 70 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch, give or take a couple. And close to that number of bagels for breakfast. Same as every trip.

In college , I once bought a chunk of bologna, baked it glazed with mustard and brown sugar. Went back to frying it or the $.10 pot pies after that experience.

Costco has an Igloo that looks like a yeti for $200.
After I posted this I saw it at Sams Club for even less.

I want to put a cooler in a cabinet that is only 22 inches wide.

Most coolers are wider than that.

Two that would work are the yeti 35q at $299 or the Stanley Adventure 30q at $98.

I think that this Amazon customer review summed it up well:

THESE COOLERS ARE ESSENTIALLY FOR TWO TYPES OF PEOPLE:

1) You go hunting or somewhere you cannot refill on ice, and thus need to make it last to keep your food/drinks/meat edible and fresh.
2)You live in a place where it gets extremely hot and you might not need 7-10 days of ice, but you do need 1-2 days of ice. Such as, the desert. If you go grocery shopping and you buy things from multiple stores and you are thus out and about a couple of hours. This is a great cooler to leave in your trunk with some ice packs and your meat/diary, or other perishables.

If you do not fall into these two categories, then you probably do not NEED this cooler, or others like it. Buy it knowing that you could probably get through life with a regular and much cheaper cooler. I am not saying not to buy it, just don't complain that it costs so much. You are paying for its deep ice keeping abilities, not everyone needs that.

I am rarely far from available ice, so I fall into the "not everyone needs" that category. I have four regular coolers that work for me.

As for Gander Mountain, I went into our local closing Gander Mtn today.. discounts were 10-30 percent off but that only made the prices competitive - no major bargains.

Nothing unique about Yeti cooler construction,. Just like their SS double wall drink cups. More and more imitators out there. In this case the copies are as good as the original. I prefer to not pay the Yeti "tax" so I get the Ozark Trail cups and coolers. About 70% less than Yeti and about half RTIC and similar copies. The Ozark Trail coolers are hard to find as they sell out at Walmart. They come in three sizes I prefer the smallest for lighter weight, easier to store, etc.

Is this style cooler a necessity? Heck no, it's a want to have vs a need to have for most of us. This is another reason I prefer the Ozark. Had enough to justify/rationalize a $96 cooler. Explaining a $300 cooler is really impossible for me. My other cooler is a nice four day 55 at Igloo cost $7 at Salvation Army, which is all I really need.

Yeti, Expensive so you can be one up on the camper parked next door. You can even buy a cap with the logo on it so it will go with your Lolex watch you are wearing and the BMW that you are towing with.
