1982 scamp elephant skin wall

1982 13 ft scamp has a rubberish finish called elephant skin. I'm thinking about painting it but also need to fill the seams. Any thoughts?

Jiggs, I used to have an older 13' Scamp with the same walls that you described. I never had to paint ours, but did read many posts about this very thing right here in the FGRV forum. Make sure you super prep the walls by cleaning with Crud Cutter or something similar. You then fill the seams with a latex calk, using a dampened wadded up paper towel to blot the calk to give it a texture like that of the elephant hide. Once all is dried/cured, use a latex based paint. Sounds simple, but then again, I've never done it.

I have a 1982 13 ft Scamp and just painted mine a few months ago. It turned out amazing !!
I searched and searched about it and ended up doing this.
I cleaned it with a bleach,tsp, water mixture. Let dry. I used DAP Dynaflex 230 caulk/sealant. It took a few days to dry, so be patient. Then one coat of Kilz premium and 2 coats of Behr premium plus ultra stain blocking paint & primer in one, interior semi-gloss enamel. I used brilliant white. It covered wonderful and looks like it just came off the production floor. Best thing I ever did to my Scamp!!!
