Brake assembly size scamp 13?

Hello there! I have a 2012 scamp 13 standard. I believe brake assembly size would be 7" by 1-1/4" Is that correct?

Why would you worry about the brakes in 2012? I have a 2006 13' that's got well over 40,000 miles and brakes are still good.

Possible grease contamination from overdoing it with EZ lube.

Why bother. a 13 ft does not need brakes - as long as you are a good driver.

In my opinion, saying you dont need brakes "if you're a good driver" is VERY BAD advice. I hope no one takes that advice and simply eliminates brakes without studying up on THEIR scenario. Take mine here: I pull a 13' Scamp trailer with a Nissan Frontier 4cyl....well within the tow capacity of my vehicle. There's ALOT of difference stopping my rig (trailer weighs 1780 lbs) with and without brakes! And I would NOT tow my trailer without brakes. Will my truck stop it?? Sure. But what about that emergency when someone pulls out in front of you and THEN you need all the braking power you can get....no matter HOW good of a driver you are!

In my opinion, for ANYONE that reads this thread please do NOT eliminate brakes on your 13' Scamp/Casita without doing your home work first! -- of course unless you're pulling with a SEMI!

If you have not confirmed grease contamination it probably isn't.
If your brakes are ineffective, you should know that trailer brakes are not self adjusting and must be adjusted occasionally by hand.
Check the wiring visually and by having someone apply the brakes while you listen at the trailer wheel (while stopped of course)
If there is something wrong with the brakes , like a broken shoe or a worn magnet, Or even grease contamination,then it would be best to just go ahead and replace the loaded backing plate and have the drum resurfaced if needed.

My owner's manual says it does- over 1000 pounds. I think that's a pretty common threshold for brakes on newer passenger vehicles. A few states require them over 1500 pounds and one state over 1000 pounds... But hold on... isn't that where the OP lives?!

hi,
i recently put brakes on my scamp 13. i pulled it for a couple of years without the brakes with no problems, except when a sudden stop was required.
i am using a subaru forester, which works fine. my problem came when coming down a long hill ( one that i had been down several times before) and the subaru brakes started chattering.
per recommendations i used the 7 inch. i used dexter parts but i'm sure there are several that are ok. it was an easy install and the brakes work fine.
i had the rv shop put in and adjust the brake controller. they are used to bigger brakes and thought these were a little wimpy.
i'm happy with them.
i used to do brake jobs in my youth and i'll say these electric brakes are a strange sort of bird.
