I am trying to decide on brake controller type. It was suggested to me(from hitch place) that i get the prodigy type/brand installed. I liked the explanation that type of controller matched the level of vehicle brake with the level of trailer brake VS the pre set type (cheaper) that has one pre set brake pressure setting and the trailer brakes at that setting all the time regardless of what amount of brake is applied with the vehicle. (does that make sense to everyone?) However, another hitch place told me that those prodigy type controllers have been known to have trouble down hills. I think i am suffering from too much information syndrome. What controller type is best. I need to decide in the next few days. Thanks a lot

Huh, first I've heard of this and I live in mountainous Oregon. I have a Tekonsha Prodigy and like it just fine. It's easy to adjust and the instructions are easy to read.

Wonder if the other hitch place DOESN'T sell the Prodigy and that's why they're leading you away. Has anyone heard what Cyndi is talking about???? I'd be curious to know if I'm out of the loop...

Cyndi H ,
I've never heard of any problems with a Prodigy! We live and primarily tow in the mountains and have never had any adverse experiences with our Prodigy brake controller. It seems to me that the person who gave you that info has ulterior motives and you are well advised to seek more information elsewhere.
I believe for those FGRV owners who have purchased new controllers in the past 5 years, the overwhelming choice has been Prodigy.

Yes, proportional brake controllers are good choices. The Prodigy is a model of Tekonsha brake controller that is a proportional brake controller. I have never heard of problems with this controller.
