Hello everybody, I'm new here. To get to the point, I'm contemplating building a mini travel trailers from scratch. Very light and small, one that has only the very basics inside, sparse and utilitarian. Kindof like the Airstream Basecamp, but at a fraction of its weight, size and price. Something I can stand in and sit and work on a notebook, otherwise a teardrop kind would have worked too.

Have any of you done this? I've once converted a Mercedes bus but of course, it already had a shell. Maybe one of these enclosed utility trailers could make a shell, but they usually have the wheels outside, plus I'd like to get more ground clearance then they have.

Are there good suppliers for the RV parts, such as a windows, a sink and such you guys would recommend?

Thanks,

Holger

Check out the TearDropp by EggCamper (ggcamper.com). You can buy an empty hull version and build it out the way you want for far less than it would cost you to make the molds and construct a single molded shell. And it is molded fiberglass so you would have the advantages of low maintenance. You could make it as sparse or as luxurious as you want.

The Teardropp is one-piece molded fiberglass construction, unlike other teardrop shaped units I've seen, and it is much taller. I was able to stand up in it (I'm over 6' tall). Another thing that impressed me about the Teardropp is the size of the rear hatch. I didn't measure it but I think the opening is about 5 1/2' high.

Here is a picture of one with the rear hatch open.

Anyway, it's a possibility for you to consider and it would meet your stated requirements.

Holy Moly Chris !

Nice work. I guess the old adage that you can't have too many clamps is true.

I just had to replace the converter and hot water heater on my BigFoot, the best price I found for parts was at http://stores.ebay.com/American-RV-Company.
I don't buy much from ebay, but I am glad I found this site.
