Look.

I love nature.

I love all creatures great and small.

But, I have to tell you, it's war between me and these dang mud daubers! I have removed daubers nests from every possible crevice inside and outside of my trailer. I think the last owner collected them. Mighty fine collection he had, too. Just wish he had taken them with him! Just about the time I think I have gotten them all ... well, there's always one more.

For some time now, I kept having these tiny little ants travel with me so I knew that they must have a home somewhere inside the trailer. Either that, or there were a few of them that liked to camp and always hitched a ride. They never really bothered me because they weren't pushy, kinda stayed out of the way, and didn't eat too much. Then day, I finally saw where they were going in...but they weren't coming out...AHA! So, they seemed to have taken up residence in my A/C.

I kept removing this grill, that plate, then finally had the whole front off. There they were. So I sprayed and, well, might as well take it all off and clean it well....as I took off the last front piece and took it outside.....What fell out?

You guessed it. Another dang dauber's nest! EEEEEKKKKK!

I'm getting me some stickers made up.

Would someone explain what a mud daubler is?

looks like a wasp but its (or ours are) redish black. builds houses (actually a nest for baby daubers) out of mud. look like small tanks stacked on top of each other. if you take a water bottle and lay it on it's side and daub mud all over it. slide the bottle out, lay it next to the one you just made and baub again. repeat as often as you want stacking beside and on top of the one before. and you have a nest (on the large side, but you got the idea) :) couldn't find one to scan - sorry

Hi All
Out side my home a Robin had buit a nest this spring.She layed 3 eggs.I watched with anticipation of seeing the babies when they were hatched.Today Robin gone and also the eggs.I guess crows found nest.What a disappointment.:cry

do they sting? I don't think so. at least I've never been stung. course I don't get close to them. but I don't get close to wasp either, and they've got be a few times.

That one has yellow on it. Mine (and I think Jana's) are black and maroonish brown.

If they sting, they haven't done it to me yet and I've given them plenty of reasons.

Sorry about your birds, Ches. We have a bunch of nests and little birds around here right now. Some of them just aren't very good nest builders and the wind gets them sometimes. So far, the blackbirds are losing against the Robins, etc. We got a Robin that will taken on anything or anyone. He swoops down right over the top of our dog and he just ignores her (him?). It's like he's saying, ''that's okay I understand you're tense. I won't bother your kids.'' Course she does the same thing to me and my husband and pretty much just herds us away from there.
