Compact Jr Exterior Seam Tape

Hi everyone!

I'm having the Compact Jr painted and need to know if the seam tape is necessary and what types of tape to use. I’m planning on going to the marine repair shop and talking with them also, but this group knows eggs better than anyone else…so what are the opinions? I’m having the little guy painted pretty wild so the tape needs to go under the paint.

Sharyl: I asked this question earlier and the replies suggested, taking the tape off, and filling in the seam with bondo. I'm in the middle of this, tape off, sanded, I used fiberglass resin, its been filled, and sanded, and investigating what to paint the raised portion of the Compact junior where the seam is. Some spots the seam is not flat, from the initial contruction, so the seam will not look perfect but I think it will be better than tape. I have the windows out to re-tape, and this project demanded attention. There is a another thread about paining, but an industrial paint and plastic shop recommended an oil base primer and oil based enamel to cover the seam, because I just want to cover the seam and not paint the whole trailer.

Sharyl, what does your seam look like under the tape?

I ask because my tape is popping off and it looks like -- but I hope not -- that the halves are pulling apart. It's night here now, but I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post them.
