Durango & Bigfoot
Hi everyone...
I've been looking thru my bookmarks and I haven't run across who has the Durango/Bigfoot combo.
More than anything, I'm curious to hear what kind of gas mileage that combo gets.
I ran across a nice Durango for sale here... and that made me think of the Bigfoot owner here.

Gas mileage, Rick!
Gas mileage Rick ... she wanted to know gas mileage!
Sally, I, too, think a snow white Durango towing a snow white little fiberglass wonder would look really spiffy!
Trouble is Sally, Rick uses that expensive Canadian gas ... which costs way, way more than the gas we use here in the states. :) Also got that nasty kilometers per litre conversion to miles per gallon.
Get out your calculator, Rick. We want an answer! And don't forget to factor in the weight difference between towing your Bigfoot and Sally's Boler.
My guess would be the Durango would only lose 3 or 4 mpg, if that, towing a Boler.

Gas mileage
We have a 93 4 litre Aerostar and have NO noticable drop in (Canadian) gas mileage towing the 13' Trillium, canoe and all related paraphenalia.
But maybe we're just lucky.

drop in gas mpg
mpg would that be mpkm
you are so lucky Nancy. mine went from 24 to18. maybe it's because your van and trailer are about the same size while my Escape is smaller than the TT? interesting :chin

mpg or kpl
It probably is kpl but I still think in miles. Either way our mileage or kilometerage (or whatever) doesn't seem to change. Our canoe is also on top of the van making the van canoe combination higher than the trailer!

O Canada!
"Mileage" in metric is...
l/100km
Litres per 100 kilometres.
then.... take 282 / your l/100km = miles / imperial gal
I'm interested in finding out what our truck does with the boler. We also have a Toyota Echo that was getting as much as 59 miles per imperial gal on our last trip across Canada.
:wiggly
Confused yet?

Yup - just like miles per gallon it is measured in litres per 100 km's.
My Durango (318 5.2L V8 PT 4WD) gets an average of about 15-17 MPG and with the Bigfoot it gets about 9-12 MPG. This is city/highway averages. The Bigfoot weighs about 3500 LBS dry and about 4500 LBS loaded (gotta have lotsa beer when camping).
With a Casita or Boler, etc, behind my truck, I doubt the mileage would drop below the 15-17 MPG range on the highway at all.
On the other hand - my Bigfoot has been known to get about 22 MPG on the highway at 120 KM/H (70 miles per hour)
The newer Durangos have a 4.7L V8 and get better mileage.
Did I answer the question ok? I am only on my second cup of coffee! ;)

Imperial Gallon != US Gallon
Remember, oh fellow USAians: We do not use Imperial Gallons here. In the United Kingdom, a pint is 20 Imperial Ounces (which varies but little from US ounces). According to a net search, 1 Imperial gallon = 1.2009 US gallons.
So I'm unsure as to what mileage per Imperial Gallon is!
Is 1 imperial gallon 8 Imperial Pints == 160 ounces, as opposed to a US gallon of 128 ounces? That makes a big difference in miles per gallon calculations!
Metric might be a consistent system of measurement, but the speculation on what all these differences are between measurements systems is more fun.

Imperial Gallons vs US Gallons.
All I know is when I fill up across the line (about 15 minutes)...I save at the very least.......15 bucks on a tank...that's not chump change.
