Extreme measures..........

Well I may have really done it this time. I was having issues with water making it's way into my 83 Burro traveling on the interstate in the rain.......couldn't find a decent looking stone shield..........couldn't seem to make the windows water tight in bad weather conditions @ 60 MPH.

So I took it to a canvas shop and they are fitting front, rear and side windows with fleece lined black vinyl fitted covers-fastened with stainless steel turn buckles- to keep the water out.

There I said it............ Has anyone else resorted to extreme measures such as these? I'm hoping it will look ok going down the road and will take photos this week and let my friends on the site decide.......

(My wife says it will help block out the light when the sun lights up the inside of our little egg when she decides to sleep in )

WOW...This is extreme...Is this an expensive thing to do? Actually sound like it would work but also makes for more work for you when you land. Seems there may be a lot of us with leaky windows. Perhaps because of the age. Interested in seeing your pics should you go this route. Hope you get good advise also...

Have you determined that the water is coming in thru the panes in the middle?

If so I could see this helping maybe but if there is some issue with the water getting in where the window meets the body of the trailer then I can not see how this would help?

Unless there is a watertight seal between the trailer and these covers then how could they stop water coming in between the turn buckle?

Please elaborate.

My grandpa was always patching holes in the corncrib with old license plates. I'm not that frugal but I am lazy and tend to go for less extreme measures. Not sure you can avoid the ingress of water at 60+mph but I have had good luck keeping the rain out when stationary.

I read here that many folks are looking for the rubber gasket material that surrounds the fixed light in the Burro sliding/fixed window. Seems the stuff shrinks over time. Guess what; you replace it and it will again shrink over time. My solution: take some butyl putty left over from rebedding whatever thru-hull you're annoyed with at the moment; stuff it in the opening at the mitre where the gasket has shrunk away; Mold it with your thumb; "paint" it with black MagicMarker to match the powder coat on the sash. Believe it or not, this little trick decreased the flow of heavy rain into the drain channel enuf to allow the channel freeing ports to keep up. I no longer have to fold my memory foam in half and remove the cushions on one side of the master suite because of an annoying little drip which over the course of a hard rain was turning into a half cup of water.
