garbage container up off the floor

I'd like to get the garbage container, in our Boler 1700, off the floor, as it always seems to be underfoot, needs to be moved at night etc. We travel very lean, so there would be room inside the door under the sink. I was thinking about one of those white wire units that holds plastic bags. But inside this cupboard, there is a shelf of thin wood, and the front edge of the shelf is strengthened by approx a 1X2. I wonder if that is structural, helping the cabinet walls stay square. Has anyone removed it, or come up with any other places to put the garbage out of the way? Thanks!

My Fiber Stream has a similar shelf under the Kitchen cabinet. I think it may be structural only for the shelf itself, which bridges over the wheel well. My shelf is only half depth (Matching the wheel well), so that a trash container mounted to the door would not interfere with it.

I used this webbed netting and lined it with plastic grocery bags.
