Hub Caps

I can't find any hubcaps that will fit my 13 foot Scamp...

I got the baby-moons that everyone recommended but they are not deep enough. They fit the rim fine but not the wheel. The center hub sticks out too far.

Anyone else have this issue?

Joe, It might help to list the year of your Scamp. Maybe the hub was different depending upon the production year? Or maybe it has different axle and rims than factory originals.

Do you have the standard grease caps on the axle, or did someone put a cap with a zerk fitting on it? The e-z lube caps(with zerk fittings) came out too far on mine. Also, my rims do not have the 'dimples' to hold baby moons. I have to use a full wheel cover(available lots of places).

you could get a Greenlee punch and punch them to fit over the hub dustcover.

I have plastic chromed hub caps that fit over our Bearing Buddies. We've had them for 5 years. I can post a picture in the morning if you like.

Can you flatten the cap on the hub? It only needs to clear the spindle and nut.

It is an 85 Scamp.... The hub really sticks out, so I am guessing someone put a cap with a zerk fitting on it? How can I tell?

Chromed Hub Caps

Joe,

This is one of our hub caps. The actually spring onto the lug nuts of the wheels. I can't remember where I found them but suspect it was on a trailer site. I'll try to find them if you want a set. They were very inexpensive.

Hub Caps

Hi
I believe that your scamp rims are the same rims than my American Boler.
I got mine on ebay and they fit real good .

I keep waffling between adding the baby moons and beauty rings I bought for my trailer... and going nude The nice part about being a nudie, is I can physically check with my hand, the warmth of the spindle area. Hub caps will impede that safety check. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

But, those hub caps and beauty rings sure would look cool

Four years old, stay shiny and easily fit over Bearing Buddies. Snap on and off easily and survived the Labrador Highway.

On a slightly off-topic - "plastic chrome" - I was reading about how they do that. Seems fiberglass is a VERY popular material to "chrome"

hmmmmm.....

A "new Airstream" look for the whole trailer????

How would you chrome fiberglass? I thought it was an electromagnetic process?

If you are chroming metals, it IS an electroplate process. However many of the "Chrome" parts on new cars are not metal.

Here is a you tube video of a shop "choming" a fiberglass reproduction part for a hotrod grille:

Anything that can be painted can be "chromed" and the strength is the same as any high quality automotive finish

It works best over black paint - so I cannot understand why they started with light blue in the video

This one is astonishing:

I now have original 1970's stainless steel beauty rings on Eggy-Sue.The plastic chrome ones checked and turned green from the copper coat under the chrome surface. My hub caps, which are like Norm and Ginny's, are in need of replacement. Thanks to them for the source... good price!

After being frustrated with "baby moons" that would not fit, I went to "full moon" wheelcovers on both trailers. They are from hubcapmike.com.
