Hurricane Potential

Any thoughts on when one reaches that high wind point where 15' fiberglass camper needs to be moved to safer ground.

My thought has always been to get ahead of any evacuation by three or four days and to move to a safe distance plus 400 miles. The extra day will let you do that.

Beauty of having a trailer, +10 get a jump on it and move inland several hundred miles. Don't wait for the traffic jam.

There was a thread on that a while back. No clear answer, but one study suggested an unprotected travel trailer could be flipped by side winds around 90 mph.

If getting out of the storm's path is not possible, hitching up, parking end-on to the wind, deploying stabilizers, and parking next to a vehicle as a wind block were suggested strategies.

The biggest danger is damage from tree limbs and flying debris.

Last year we were camping at Fort Benning when Irma was on her way. Our daughter insisted we stay at the house with her, so I filled the fresh water tank, hooked the truck back onto the trailer (fifth wheel) and all was fine. Mind you we didn't get the winds as forecast in SW GA. There were lots of small branches down around the campground but no large limbs.
