Info on an '83 Burro

I just bought an 83 Burro and was wondering if anyone knew appx how much they weigh? I accidentally turned down the wrong street and saw this little dirty Burro sitting under a tree. We stopped to see if the guy wanted to sell it. He said they used it once and it has been sitting there unused for 4 years. We bought it for $1500. Is that a good price for one of these? Is is in excellent shape (as far as I can tell). Is there anything else I should know about Burros? I can't find as much info on these as I do the Scamp or other types. Thanks for ANY info!

Better post the size. I think that's an excellent price, no matter what size it is, too.

Whoops! I was so excited about finding a trailer that I forgot to mention that it is a 13'. The best part about my dirty Burro is that the guy cleaned it all up before I paid him for it. It's really beautiful.

Way to go! I also have a 1983 Burro 13 foot TT. I really like it. I think mine was originally a ''Burro kit''.

When I bought mine I also received an original product brochure. And it says:

''Weight Fully Equipped: Approx. 960 lbs.''

I have not weighed mine but I think that 960 lbs is likely fibbing a little on the low side.

When I went to register it, the DMV guy asked me ''how much does it weigh?'' Of course I tolde him exactly 960 lbs. (Ho Ho). I also met another Burro owner (a 1982 I think) that said he got his registerd as a motor cycle trailer because it was under 1000 lbs. I looked at his trailer license plate and it was one of the smaller size plates, like ones that go on motorcycles. My registration is about $20 a year. No complaints there.

I really like the high scores on the funkness scale that Burros seem to garner. Seems to be a real chick magnet! :thumb

Congratulations on your almost-new Burro.
Burros are nice trailers, lots of people have them and love them. There is nothing wrong with them, just that the manufacturer ''went south'' a couple of years ago. You will not receive any factory support, as you would on most other brands, but that won't be one iota of a problem. You'll get all the support that you could ever need from Burro owners and others on this web site.

Sounds now like you have a shiny new '83. Presuming that everything is checked out and functioning pretty well, lubed, etc., there is one thing that should be changed before you hit the road: If the tires are original, even if not enough mileage to wear the nubs off, they should be replaced--tires simply don't last that long. That's a minor cost and might save you from a mishap in the next few weeks.

I started to do it, but it kept wanting a smaller file size.
After 5 tries on the first page I gave up.
It's ten pages long and started to give me a headache, so I decided to take a nap instead.

I had my trailer weighed today - It came in at a hefty 980 lbs.

I'll try to post my before & after pics as soon as I figure it out. Does anyone know if I can get a screen door for my Burro?

I'm planning on making one for my Casita one of these days, but in the meantime, I am using a small spring rod with a lace curtain.

Here is the screen door I made for our Trillium. It folds against the closet out of the way, when not in use. When using it there are two spring-loaded catches that hold it flat open as a regular sized door.
Easy to make and cost around $30.

Using the inner frame, modified the door to make it fold-away. Which is very beneficial is such a limited space. And make it still available to leave the door open to enjoy the fresh air.

I was consider making a snap-on screen using snaps, and making it

We used a curtain made of screen for two years. It was satisfactory but often left gaps.

Yes this door is a modification of the one on Bolerama but we did not want a full sized door sticking into the trailer when it is not needed. The door originally was to be a bifold but it didn't slide smoothly. This way is much better and it opens and closes and folds, perfectly.
