just bought 1987 scamp from brother in law

He had a roof air conditioner installed about 12 years ago. Reading this forum (I am a newbie) I have seen the need of reinforcing the roof. Looking at the roof it does look like it may be sagging. We are ordering a new Coleman Mach 3 to replace. It is 110 lbs. Am I asking for trouble or do I need to look at reinforcing now? Keep in mind It is done just fine for him for 12 years.

There is flexing in the shell as you drive down the road. Added weight would increase the flexing and possibly lead to cracks in the gel coat over time? I don't really know, just a thought.

The thirteenth year may be the year the A/C ends up creating a new roof vent and lands on the floor of the trailer.

Looking at the roof it does look like it may be sagging.

I wasn't poking fun at Steve, honest. He was trying to get answers to his questions. But Scamp would be the first to tell an owner that a Scamp trailer not built for a roof A/C needs to have the roof reinforced. I'd hate to see him damage the trailer needlessly.

I concur with the consensus. With a AC on the roof without support, I'd cringe every time the trailer goes over a bump in the road.

If you can find a Mini-Mach (7200btu) It's half the power and less than 2/3 the size of the Mach.
Scamp supplied the mini mach on my Scamp .
It is also only 9" tall instead of 13".
I don't know if they are still available, but the half power is still over kill for a Scamp and it can run on a smaller generator.

It's too bad nobody makes a truly small, lightweight roof mount AC. 5k BTU is more than enough! Maybe there's the possibility of someone hacking up $99 window mount units to make roof mount AC!
