Need an installer for replacing a Dexter axle

I recently became a Casita owner. I bought it knowing the axle needs to be replaced. The trip home (1300 miles) resulted in a broken cabinet hinge and two popped roof rivets. I have seen mention of these in "do I need a new axle" forums. Since it is a 2000 year model and never had that transplant, I pretty much knew it needed to be done.

My problem is I can find a distributor for the axle but they can't help with the installation, or a referral to someone who can. So am looking for some referral to one in the Eastern WA or Northern Idaho area. I figure if I have to travel some distance I will.

If it is welded on Look for a welder that has been in business for over 10 years or more.
Have him cut it off and BOLT the new one on.

Any trailer repair shop can do it. They will take all measurements, order a correct axle from manufacturer and install it.

By “trailer shop,” I’m guessing he means a shop specializing in cargo and utility trailers, some of which do their own welding and fabrication in-house. That’s what I’d look for, not an RV repair shop.

Shock Igzorbers

If the axle isn't drooping badly, you might consider installing shock absorbers. If you have 13" wheels, use 14" or 15's if they will fit. Going 13's to 14's made a big difference for me.

I had to replace my axle eventurally because of a cracked spindle. Ordered the axle from a local utility trailer supply place. They offered to install it, but I knew a welder that wouldn't burn down the trailer. Have to watch those sparks, fiberglass is flammable.

Evel Kneivel called them Shock Igzorbers.

I had a local auto repair place that specializes in driveline repairs change out my axle. Just make sure you purchase the Dexter AP166 brackets along with the new axle. Once the old axle is cut off you get the new brackets welded on and then the new axle gets bolted to the brackets. Axle replacement becomes easy once it is a bolt-on instead of welded on.
