My trailer is is in
the trailer hospital waiting for a brake transplant.
I am having "camping withdrawals".
I made an appointment last Friday to have the bearings repacked/replaced and have the
brakes inspected. As I am very busy with my own work, and am uninitiated in certain trailer mechanics, I figured I needed professional help. I knew I was "Pushing my luck" as it had been 2 years since I had it done the last time.
They reported back that the magnets were badly worn and the coils were exposed. I authorized the repairs they quoted. Now it seems that they were only going to replace the internal parts in my existing hubs. Come to find out that the original
Fiber Stream brakes were 7-1/4", which are no longer available as the industry standard is now 7". What we are in the midst of now is the back-and-forth of trying to obtain the correct parts, and waiting for the shipment to arrive.
I have already refurbished the wheels, and replaced the leaf springs and the associated mounting hardware.
