Repairing chips in gel coat

Noticed a dime-size crushed areas on back roof corner.
Must have happened when a pine cone fell and hit it- but not sure.
Cleaned it up, mixed 2 part epoxy with a dab of white rustoleum paint and filled the area in.
Looks great. Very simple fix.
Was going to paint afterwards, but this saved a step.
See how long it lasts. But I could chop some fiberglass matting really small to give it greater strength.

Gel Coat Repair

I do not have expert advice, and I suspect you will get some here.

However, there are very specific products available for gel coat repair. Mostly you would find them on marine product sites (like way-over-priced West Marine -- but for repairing a small chip, the price is not a problem).

There also are a lot of advice about how to repair gel coat on boating/marine sites. One I remember has the divot filled with the gel coat material you can get on the above sites, and then cover it tightly with a piece of tape that squeezes the gel coat repair epoxy down even with the existing gel coat.

Don't try to invent a solution when there are good, proven ones available.

I would keep the mixed material in an empty white vinegar jug, myself.
