Rust check

Hiya, I just picked up a 2018 13' Scamp and there's a some surface rust. I'm wondering how important/urgent this is to treat and what would be the best approach. I've seen recommendations for both POR 15 and Rustoleum Rust Reformer.

Pics of the rust here (plus a bonus pic of a nasty drain hose)

Thank you!

In my opinion rust should be dealt with any time you see it. It can get out of control if you let it go. Not really sure if one product is better than another. We have had decent luck with rustolium products and Boeshield T9 as a protectant. As far as the hose goes, you can replace it or run a bleach solution through your plumbing system.

Seems relatively minor....most frames have that or worse. On our Casita....when I see that rust....I scrape with wire brush and hit it with spray Rustoleum black paint. Your frame will out live you. Good luck.

I would indeed lightly sand it, use a rust converter and then paint it. I just like keeping things clean and the black paint looks nice when done. I plan to do this with my 2017 Scamp this spring.

It does not appear to me that the integrity of the frame has yet been compromised. Use the Por 15 treatment followed with paint. Replace clamps or anything small that is rusted.
You will then be set to travel the continent.

I just came in from cleaning my frame to ad another item to your "to do" list.
In our vintage of Scamp (mine is a 2017) the ground wire for the brake needs to be cleaned and re-tightened as well.

Well it is only going to get worse. But be careful when fixing it to not make it worse. some times when painting and sealing you cam make water collecting pockets.
