Trailer: Scamp
Posts: 2
I recently bought a 1982 Scamp and it sits too low to the ground.
What can I do to add some height?
any help would be great, I am new to camping .

Sherry,

Assuming that there is no damage to the shell, floor or the frame, and assuming the axle on your Scamp is original, and assuming you're willing and able to spend some money, the best and simplest way to raise your ride is with a a new axle.

With a new torsion-flex suspension axle (which is what is on your trailer currently) such as the Dexter's Tor-Flex models, and proper installation, you can achieve a few things at once:
1) replace your tiny 13" wheels with 15";
2) push the frame up by defining a "down angle" on the axle (a quality axle installer can explain and demonstrate this to you);
3) add brakes to your trailer.

I did this to my 1988 Scamp and the results are great. I like the look of the trailer's stance much better, the ride is very smooth, and having brakes is always a good idea.
