Seam Tape

I (like many of you out there) have been wondering what to do with my un-sticky, shrinking and generally awful looking seam tape. Here is my idea I am testing. I purchased white, (vinyl I think) shelf liner that has a texture very similar to ensolite. I have cut it into 4 inch strips (because I want to really be sure to cover over the seams) and have glued it in place with construction adhesive.

So far it seems to be sticking (it's been about an hour) but my test piece held on like mad!! I purchased the shelf liner at Canadian Tire (it was manufactured in China) so I bet you folks in the U.S. could likely find it too. The downside is that the shelf liner does not have a terribly strong fabric backing and I am wondering about long term longevity.

I will update on the progress tomorrow afternoon if I have a chance.

You might also consider trying the vinyl sold in fabric stores. The kind that is commonly used for tableclothes came to mind when you mentioned that the shelf liner does not have much of a fabric backing. The tablecloth vinyl comes in a variety of colors including white, has a bit of texturing, and is backed with a thin, felt-like material. Joann Fabrics has quite a selection both online and in their stores and you can frequently obtain coupons for 40% off.

The shelf liner seems to be working like a charm. It's holding very well with the construction adhesive!!
