side wall thickness

I have a 13' 1979 Scamp. I recently drilled a hole thru the upper sidewall &
it appeared to be around 1" thick......what is the wall composed of?

My 1975 wall was not very thick.

I have drilled / cut may holes in different Scamps. The shell thickness usually varies between 1/8" and 1/4". I did cut an access hole for the bottom of a closet in a S-13 and found the glass thickness near the door to better than 1/2". It appears they built up the glass to beef up the door frame.
The Scamp shells are composed of chopped glass and resin. Scamp does glass in a piece of wood in the rear wall where the table mounts to. At this point with the glass and wood the wall would be over an inch thick.
Do you have a picture of where you drilled the hole?

Two areas have a wood filler, actually three. The front where the bunk hinges, the rear where the table and the spare tire are mounted and the door. All of these areas would be an inch are thicker.

Depending on the year of the build... who can say what happened in 1979 vs 2006.. or in my case 1988? I've come to the conclusion there is no "standard" year-over-year.

I believe even Jackie's 1977 Scamp had the same wood inserts as my 2006.

Scamp hasn't changed very much over the years. That can be a good point or a bad point depending on your needs. But over the years... there really is no "standard," there's been factory fires and changes to materials. We are here to help, what do you want or need to do?

The area I drilled thru was for attaching the rear upper compartment.
