Snap Cap Size Problem

I recently replaced all the snap caps on my 2008 Scamp 13.

Here's the problem I ran into. My Scamp uses a smaller size ring and cap for the curtain rod rivets. Scamp now uses the larger size for everything and no longer sells the smaller size. I took one of the old small caps into the local hardware store to match it and found what appeared to be a very close match. I got home... no go. Very close, but just too small. They won't go on. Next size up is clearly way too big.

For the time being, I ended up doing what Scamp suggested, which was to use the larger caps with a dab of adhesive caulk.

I'd still like to find a source for the smaller caps, but I'm not sure how to determine the correct size. To me it almost seems like the caps are proprietary to fit rings from the same manufacturer. They appear to be sized according to the screw they are meant to hide, not by the diameter of the rings or caps.

Could you possibly use a drill or dremel to make the holes on the small ones large enough to work? Also you might try Little House Customs, I believe they have snap caps and may be able to get you the correct size.

The Scamp has two sizes 8/8 and 12/12.The snap caps from Pro-Dec .com are what Scamp uses.A new cap will snap on your old washer.8/8 is the smaller size. You can replace the old washer without removing the rivet.Split new washer and slide under rivet with a little silicone and snap on new cap.

Now that's interesting... and useful. I have a few on the roof that I neglected for too long and the washer disintegrated. Not loose or leaking, so no compelling reason to replace the rivet. Thanks!

New snap cap washers need to be drilled out to match the size of the fastener.

I have one here at my desk. Looking at it, it is thinner around the hole to allow larger rivets or screws to penetrate without drilling. Of course going beyond the fastener size of that area may require drilling.

Without drilling out to proper size the washer will not sit flush on the fiberglass.

snap cap suggestion

Hi, Floyd - I'm not replacing rivets - just repacing old/missing snapcaps...no leaks. Just don't know which "bottoms" to order with the 12/12 tops from ProDec. Recommendations?

You can order just the caps if that's all you need. In fact they must be ordered separately.
I ordered "FB" which I think is most versatile when used in various applications.
