I have the standard two-burner stove top in my 2016 Scamp and it is showing signs of rust. I can't find anything in a Forum search that addresses this problem. Am I the only one? If not, what did you do to mitigate the problem?
Our stove started out like the first 2 pics and ended up like the last 2. Refinished it myself. Sanded down to bare metal, sprayed on high heat rust inhibiter and a final spray with silver bbq paint.
My bigfoot's chrome stove top was a little rusty. We used scotchbrite disc on a grinder to prep it then sprayed it with black bbq paint. Looks great and will be easy to repaint when it starts looking bad. Also the front of the stove is black so it looks better then the chrome.
You may want to try a loctite product called "EXTEND RUST NEUTRALIZER SPRAY" It actually neutralize the rust and seal it from further rust. Then you can prime or paint, other wise the rust will re appear in time
Most of the older campers have rusty stoves. They get chips and scratches when they get used. Only the stoves that have never been used or have only seen very light use while being kept inside in low humidity will make it to 30+ years of age rust free.
Rust???? Just call it "patina" and tell folks you really like that original look....heck....watch American Pickers....people pay good money for "patina'! LOL!!!
