switch on propane alarm

Let's start by saying my trailer is all electric. That said, I'm installing a Wave III heater for off grid heat. I'm installing a hardwired propane alarm adjacent to the heater. When not using the heater in the summer, with the propane turned off, can I put a switch on my propane alarm to turn off it's parasitic drain? Anyone see any issues?

I have had that arrangement for more than 10 years: hard-wired power switch right above the prop. detector. It gets turned on only when gas is being used.
It appears that the switching is harmless to the unit.
