Trailer: Scamp 19 ft 5th Wheel 1992
Posts: 18
In looking over my tire choices, I would like to put 14 inch tires on the scamp.
Does anybody know the specifications for the wheel, offset, that kind of info.

The reason for this change is in looking at the Goodyear info on the 13 inch tire, it's
reated at 1360 #, giving a total load for two tires of 2720 #, with the 19 th fifth wheel
having a 3500 # axle, and a GW of 2900 #, the 13 inch tire is a little under sized.

I've replace the 13 inch with new, but since I'm planing a trip out to Yellowstone from the
east coast, with lot's of interstate, I would feel better with a higher rated tire.

Thanks for the feedback.

David,

The Marathon ST185 80R 13 "C" range tire is rated at 1480 lps per tire at 50 psi, but that's about as high as you can get in a 13" ST rated tire.

Goodyear Marathons ST tire chart

Unfortunately I recently sold a Scamp 19' with the 14" wheel conversion. I don't know what the offset was, but I presume it to be the same as your 13" wheels. You will have to either replace the axle or raise the axle you have; or you'll have to cut the wheelwell to accomodate the additional width and height of the 14" tire in the wheel well. It IS a worth-while mod, however.

Is the axle a bolt on Maybe it's possible to get the highlift brackets for the axle and then you wouldn't need to cut the fiberglass?

I think travel trailer wheels all have the same setback, unless the axle has disc brakes. I know when I purchased new wheels, I just told em it was for a travel trailer...they didn't ask me about the setback or even the brand of trailer. I went with a custom wheel (Corvette Rally wheel pattern).

When I went to replace my 14" tires that came on my Scamp I could not find low profile 14" tires I had to do back to a 13" rim. I made a 3,000 mile trip and had no problem Interstates and all. My Tire man said the biggest thing to remember was to check inflation in the morning before taking off, Keep them up to max inflation and Keep it under 60mph.
I belived him and have not had a problem.
Good luck

On our Avion, I changed out the hubs to allow mounting the same wheels as on the tow vehicle. So it has the standard Chevy 4WD 6 lug wheels with 31 x 10.50 x 15 tires as the pickup.

For the Scamp, when I decide to upgrade the sagging suspension, it will receive the same treatment. Once I get that kind of rubber on, I will be more inclined to obey the "Maximum 20 psi" stickers on each wheel well.

Sorry for not responsing very quickly, but we took the Scamp out for it's first
camping trip. Just to try out the systems, so we only when to a local state park about
40 miles away, everything seems to work good. Used the reefer on electric, filled the waste tanks, boy the black tank at six gallons only lasted two full days.

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts on the wheels, I measured from the inside of the wheelwell to the center of the axle at 15 inch's, with the goodyear spec's giving the 14 inch tire diameter at 26.5 inches, I think it should fit.

I keep everybody informed of my findings.
