Hello,
After only 42 years in AZ the Trill 1300's belly band started falling off.
So the rest of the rivets were drilled out to completely remove the band.
Filling, sanding, and
painting were considered as a repair method.
Since the main effort was to keep the Trill as stock looking as possible
gluing the old band back on was chosen. On the internet some fancy silicone
adhesive was purchased sent from England. Number 4 sheet metal screws,
number 6 screws, and small washers were used to hold the band on while the
silicone cured. The top half of the band was filled down over the rivet holes
with the silicone before screwing the band on. The bottom was left open to
drain any water that might get in. Of course, after scuffing and cleaning the
fiberglass where the adhesive would contact, the band and trailer body were
masked off to protect them from all the silicone ooze out. For the finishing
touch new belly band trim plastic was installed. The result is quite pleasing..
Hmmm... Next project? Perhaps the sagging door?
