My friggie is a 2 way... Propane and 120... so my question is.. since their isn't a 12v connection after I have got the friggie cold... how many hrs can you travel with it not charging to keep your food cold?? I know its against the law to run down the rd with the propane tanks 'on'...... Not that I go very far.. but just would like some information....

If it's full of cold 'stuff' it'll last as long as you care to drive in a day... generally an eight or ten hour driving day (provided that it stays closed) won't affect it much at all.

If you're concerned put a container of ice in just before you leave. While traveling it will then work like a standard cooler.

In most places that you`ll be travelling in, it`s not against the law to run with propane on....unsafe in my opinion but a lot of folks run with it on......don`t you have a battery in your trailer? If you do, possibly a 400 watt inverter would maybe run your fridge whilst underway.....it works for my two way fridge....you may need a little larger inverter but the price for one is relatively cheap.....up here a 400 W is about $50......this way you`ll cool the fridge off your engine alternator as it`s charging your rv battery.....I found that the insulation in my older fridge isn`t that great and won`t hold the cold overly long without external cooling but with your much newer unit it probably will stay cold a lot longer.......Benny

Benny.. yes I havea battery.. but I dont have any idea if my trailer has in 'inverter'...LOL I dont even know what an 'inverter' looks like...Most the the camping area's i go to are probably only 30 min-2 hrs away from my home.. I was just curious as to how long you could go with food in it....

My Fiber Stream also has a 2-way frig. I keep 2 large "Blue-Ice" packs in the freezer compartment. I pre-chill the frig for 24 hours before starting out. When I hitch up and load the frig, I transfer the packs to the refrigerator compartment, and install the door pin. Under normal conditions, this keeps the frig cold during my 12 hour driving days when driving cross country. When it is really hot, (Like in Oklahoma in July) I will run the frig on propane while it is sitting in the restaraunt parking lot during lunch. The packs go back in the freezer while the frig is running. When we leave, it gets shut off, packs go back in the frig., and away we go.

Friends of mine routinely go a couple of hours without refrigerator power, but I suppose that how well that works will depend on the refrigerator, the temperature in the trailer, and if you follow the suggested practice of having it well packed, including some ice.
Christi, it seems like you don't have an inverter, since you haven't installed one yourself and the previous owner of the trailer would have certainly mentioned it as a selling feature. Like many electronic devices, it could look like just about anything, but would need cooling vents or fins - the converter fits that appearance description as well.

Christi, look in the curb side dinette seat cupboard. That's where the shore power electrical cord is stored and the converter will be close to that. It's probably a silver "box."

Thats a converter just the opposite of inverter. Inverter is from 12v to 110 a conberter is 110 to 12v(12 v to 12v)

I've never seen an Intellipower 9100 personally, but they have been mentioned often in previous discussions. As already mentioned, the Inteli-Power 9100 from Progressive Dynamics is a converter, perhaps the stock one installed by Scamp. Yours looks like the 9140, which can put out 40 amps of DC power. When you are plugged in to "shore power" (an outside source of AC power), this box uses that AC power to provide DC power for whatever needs it instead of running down the battery; it also recharges the battery at the same time. When you are not plugged into shore power, this box has nothing to do: the battery runs the 12V DC stuff, and there is no source of AC power.
Moderators/Administrators: Since the Inteli-Power converter is common egg equipment, and a frequent subject of discussion, should the above link be added to Helpful-Links, perhaps in a new Electrical Power section, or a modification of the Battery Monitoring Electronics and Products section?
