Upholstery Questions

As you can see there's some major seat cushion cover damage on the bunk backrest upper area. Could be from sun... maybe moths or both.

How would you go about repairing this? I think the other cushions could use new covers also.

I see Scamp has new covers but is it just me or are they expensive?

Anyone have luck with a upholstery repair place?

Would the bunk backrest need to come out to be recovered?

Thanks for all replies.

We had really great success, my wife contacted our local adult education school… they offered upholstery classes… we contacted them and they said they always have students looking for projects
The lady we connected with did a fantastic job ( she even made a cover for our porta potty
Cost was next to nothing… when we picked them up the instructor laughed that he never had seen an upholstered toilet… definitely worth looking into in my mind

While you wait for responses to your post question here I suggest you do some research on the topic from previous posts on this forum. Go to the top of the FGRV page and click on the "Search" drop-down button. Go to the bottom (Google Search) and look up "upholstery". You will find a TON of ideas and people to contact. :-)

If you live anywhere near Mexico I'd suggest taking your cushions to an upholstery shop there. Even automotive. They will hook you up. Huge selection of material and you'll save a lot of cash.

You can clean the fabric but the foam will always be nasty. Rent a Bissel spot cleaner or similar. Or you can pay a pro to clean the whole trailer. It's not expensive.

Scamp’s prices compare very favorably with professional custom work. Looks like about $600 for a 13’ Layout 1 (complete set of covers only) versus $1000 or more for custom work. As I recall, those prices haven’t changed much for quite a few years. Fabric choices are sturdy and practical. They are boxed and welted, and workmanship is well above average for RVs.

A much cheaper alternative would to clean and repair what you have. The upper bunk comes out easily with a few screws. Patch in a complementary edge panel to replace the section of the top edge that was UV damaged. Not sure what cleaning process would be best for the water stains on the rear dinette. I’d expect RV upholstery fabrics to be water cleanable, but test an inconspicuous section to be sure.
