Vinyl Molding for Bigfoot 2500

Hello All,

I want to share a bit of knowledge that might be helpful to many.

My 1996 Bigfoot 2500 had a problem where the vinyl molding running all the way around, where the two halves are screwed together, was falling out. The old stuff was all dried up and shrunk.

Actually replacing this stuff is not difficult, the hard part is finding the right molding. They come in different sizes and different shapes, you know. I measured my width to be 7/8 inch.

I ordered 50 feet of some stuff that seemed like it would work. It fit PERFECTLY - woohoo!

So the stuff is from Factory RV Surplus in Elkhart Indiana (no, I have no affiliation with them).

The "Item Code" is X-D946-1W
The Description is "Screw Cover, #30 White, Flexible"

Price was thirty cents a foot. Oh, from my 50', I had 2' left over - cut it pretty close. And that was without any major mistakes. So that was $15 for the molding and $12.48 for shipping, for a total of $27.48.

I spent three hours on the job, starting with scrubbing the channel with a fingernail brush and hot soapy water. Pictures attached.

See you out there somewhere,
Thumper

I wonder if this is the same stuff used on an all molded towable Bigfoot? Any Bigfoot trailer folks know? If so, thanks for sharing the information

Hmm, looks great! Thumper, does this stuff have a profile like a bowler hat or a cymbal? It looks like it may work on my old trailer

Well Burrfoot, I measured the metal channel itself that the trim fist into. Mine measures 2 1/4 inch across, with the opening measuring 5/8".

And yes, it is crowned. This link shows the cross section: - XD946-1W White Screw Cover - Price: $0.30 - Factory RV Surplus - 1611 W Bristol St, Elkhart, IN 46514 (800) 325-1461 (574) 262-3327

I'm afraid in my initial post I didn't have the item number quite right - here it is again: XD946-1W.

Cheers,
Thumper

The gap on my '81 B16 measures the same (1 1/4 across, gap about 5/8). I imagine Bigfoot went for a standard gap size so they could use the same stuff on all their trailers. I'm ordering some!

slight mistake

I made a mistake - the channel is 1 1/4 inch wide, not 2 1/4. Burrfoot seemed to figure this out!

Two more pics

Here are two more pics, one just to show the good fit and one attempting to show the measurement.

Hi Jon,

Did this Camco product work? Bigfoot 2500 where the vinyl molding running all the way around, where the two halves are screwed together.

I can still find what you said you were going to buy, the Camco 25222, but not the OP's product.

Love your rig, by the way!

Thanks,
Bob

Thanks. I redid a canopy and have some black, but it is much, much thinner than the OEM stuff on my Bigfoot, so I'm looking for someone who can verify that the Camco 25222 product is indeed heavy like the OEM.

I would LOVE to see a photo of a Bigfoot with the belly seam redone in black - does it really look good????

I looked at some Camco 25222 at Walmart and it didn't look anything like what I used. Do you have a trailer or camper?

Here's my trailer with the black belly band:

Excuse the dirty rig. This was last year when I drove the AlCan to move up to AK. Second time with this trailer and 3rd time overall.

That's a great looking trailer - including the black belly band!

Do you have a name or brand of that "tape" you used?

I actually have a truck camper - I have a few pics of it on my registry, which evidently is still the most recent one - here it is. We see so few Bigfoots, it's always a trill to meet one another.

And thank you for the beautiful picture!

Found it! 9 years later, they're selling the exact same product at ebay.
Here is the link should anyone else end up here.
