Exclamation WARNING: Scamp Suburban furnaces arrive damaged

I ordered, from Scamp, a new Suburban furnace. It arrived in a solid, undamaged, carton but the furnace housing was a wreck. The seam was split, a vent was dented in, the corners were not square, and the flange was bent. I sent photos of the damage and of the carton to Scamp.

The response is that Suburban sends them to Scamp damaged. Seriously. I have it in writing. This is accepted practice. The furnace housing has to be repaired BEFORE it can be installed in a new or used trailer. If anyone questions this, I have proof. But do be informed before you order.

Suburban furnace arrived damaged

I had a similar experience. Ordered a Suburban furnace for my Casita. Good box, damaged contents. Sent it back and reconsidered Suburban and instead bought a Propex HS2000 furnace. Couldn't be happier. Smaller, quieter, more appropriate capacity so it doesn't cycle so frequently, and uses far less propane.

Why continue with Suburban?

I asked Scamp why they put up with shoddy products going into their trailers but, of course, got no response. It does puzzle me though.

Scamp is sending me a new unit and either Scamp or Suburban will reimburse me for one of the installations.

I seldom use the furnace. We live in the Pacific Northwest where it’s seldom terribly cold and I’m often in a site with shore power so a little electric heater works great.

Propex HS2000 Propane Heater

It appears that the Propex HS2000 propane heater is made in the UK. Where can I buy it in the US?

I got mine from a dealer in Colorado. There are now dealers for Propex in San Francisco, Colorado and Washington. https://www.propexheatsource.com/dealers/

I bought a lot of parts off the Scamp. And I've never had a problem with them coming in broken that wasn't obviously broken by the shiping company. No have not bought a furnace off of them. But frankly my experience would tell me that the problem was with suburban and not Scamp.

But to be honest the entire RV industry right up to the multi-million dollar class A's, and yes I've worked on a few, are built on cheap products especially the parts you Don't see
