Where to buy Scamp wheels?

Hi,

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I have the hardest time finding anything with these forum search features. The stock wheels on my '93 Scamp 13ft are pretty rusty and the paint is peeling and since I want to install new tires, I figure why not replace the wheels now too. These are the 13", 5 lug type.

Scamp sells them - the price is actually not that bad, but $33 for shipping to CA. So it comes to $117 total for two wheels.

13 inch 5 Lug Rim

I do like the little pinstripes around the rim And again, not terribly expensive, but I'm curious what my other options are. Should I try a local RV store? I'd like to stay with the white, 8-spoke stock wheels, or at least some that look the same. CampingWorld has some on their site that look similar...?

8-Spoke Steel Wheels - Product - Camping World

Also, as far as tires go, is there a preferred brand/type? I've seen the tire links listed on this site, so will read those first before starting another huge tire discussion here.

Thanks, my wife and I are planing a two week road trip with the Scamp through the northwest this May and it's time to start getting things in shape!

You should be able to purchase the wheels from most auto supply stores. I purchased mine at a local auto supply store - dont recall the price but I seem to recall they were not all that expensive.

Our local Wal Mart has 175-80D-13 tires mounted on 13" white spoke wheels (w/blue/red pinstripes) for $80 each. Think they're 6ply rating, 1360# weight rating each. I've used the same tire/wheel combo in 12" on my teardrop trailer with no problems & good wear service.

hey, thanks Harvey! I hadn't considered buying the tire and rim together. this opens up a whole new world of availability and now I don't have to have the tires mounted separately. a lot of online retailers are offering free shipping on these too! such as:

Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D Kenda Tires and Wheels AM31985

I check at my friendly local WalMart too.

If there's a Lowes close to you, they also have similar looking wheels with premounted tires in the size you're looking for. The premounted tire and wheel combinations I've seen aren't balanced, so you'd have to take them to a tire shop to get them spin balanced which shouldn't cost much.

Wilder - did you try the dedicated Google search? It works much better than our site's search. There's a link to it at the bottom of this message (in my post signature).

I hope this helps.

Send a message via Yahoo to Darwin Maring
Tractor Supply and Northern Tools both should have the Tire mounted on the rim for a really great price.

Standard white spoke trailer wheels available at just about any place that sells tires/wheels. I paid $25 for a 15" at Les Schwab (Oregon Tire Guy!)

Wilder, Those are the same tires I purchased last year. They are better suited to the weight of the 16 Scamp I have than the standard load range "C" that came with it. They are working great so far through several trips to hot FL and hotter South TX from GA last year. I only got the tires though since my wheels were still good and then had them mounted, balanced, and steel valves added locally.

Thanks for all the help. I checked Lowes, Walmart, Sears tire center - none of them carry these in CA. So I'll get some online. Mary, thanks for the tip on searching!

Maybe these folks on El Camino could suggest something local

Eyers Trailer Hitch Center: trailer hitches, accessories, racks, repair

Or Gilroy Tire and Brake??

Good luck!

Matt

Update: this search might have some more options:

Lowes doesn't sell the tires in CA, but I checked them out in Utah-exact same tire that Northern Tool sells-and a little cheaper too. However, I needed mine while in CA, so ordered from Northern Tool. Scamp now has new tires/rims and is just waiting for me!
