White vinegar

I had found a article for sailboats using white vinegar in the toilets and holding tanks to combat some of the odors that are associated with salt water systems.

Has anyone here used distilled white vinegar in their rv's, if so how did you dilute and use it?

Why would one when there are products made that break down the contents, using enzymes, and combat odor? They work very well. They also contain chemicals, just like vinegar.

vinegar kills bacteria


The holding tank treatments that are effective at breaking down the solids use aerobic bacteria for that task. You want those solids to get broken down so it is easier to empty your holding tank.


Vinegar is not going to be selective about what bacteria it kills.


Do some in depth reading on the subject so you better understand what is happening in the tanks. There is more science involved in holding tank treatment products than just controlling the odors.
