my '86 scamp has the original ice box in it. I was wondering if anyone can give me feedback on how effective it is during the summer. i have never used one of these. thanks...........

It works great, just poke a few holes in the side of your Ice bag and put it in the tray with the hole side down, when it's gone get more!.

Since bought Ice is barely frozen, you can save those 64 oz squarish juice bottles , rinse them, refill them with water, tea,or lemonade and put them in your deep freeze at home before the trip, Since they start the trip at near zero degrees they can last several days and can provide cold drinks as they thaw.

thats the ticket,,,,freeze your own water.

ice box is basicly a verticle cooler. they have been workiing well since back in the 1800's when homes had ice boxes, precurser to the refridgerator. thats why some of us old fogies still get a beer out of the "icebox".
eventualy we became tired of fetching ice and invented the refridgerator.

When we had an icebox, I would freeze everything that I could before going on the trip to give us an extra boost. Love the idea of the milk cartons for ice/drinking water. It was VERY expensive to buy ice when we were on a trip of several days.

Can you use dry ice for ice boxes? Isnt it colder and last longer? Never seen it for sale though so dont know where to buy it. Probably depends on what part of the country you camp in as I've heard folks in hot, humid areas complain that ice boxes dont work well which is why refridgerators became so popular.
