1971 Compact Jr

Hi, i have had my Compact Jr for about a year and love it. We are now looking to fix or replace the track mechanism that keeps the pop top up and locked in place. 3 of the tracks are fine but one of the tracks has missing ball bearings and the mechanism falls apart when lifting or putting the pop top down. I will try to get a picture to illustrate the problem.

1st question: What kind of repair technician would i call to fix the track mechinism?

2nd question: If i would replace the entire system with an alternate lifting mechanism, what would you suggest?

Hi Linda, this place MAY have some of the parts you need. As far as who could work on it... maybe a VW tech that works on the Westfalia pop top?

Linda look in problem solvein forum for the thread that says ...where to get lift mec for pop top compact jr ... that's what your lookin for if u wanna build your own or show someone what to build for u...

The slides on the top are very close to tool box roller slides. Look up Waterloo Tool Boxes. Another thing you can do is take the bad one off take it to a tool supply in your area.
I rebuilt a 71 Compact Jr. four years ago.

Thanks for the replies everybody. It didn't even occur to me that with such an obscure problem on an obscure trailer there might be an existing thread with the same topic. Thanks for finding the link Donna. It looks like this is a pretty easy fix. Linda
