Has anyone had any experience with these "peel and stick studs requiring no drilling. 3M™ VHB adhesive backing sticks to most clean flat surfaces (except wood). Accepts all marine dome snap buttons."
I am thinking of using them them on the outside of my trailer rather than making holes and am wondering if the adhesive is really strong enough to stand up to repeated use.

I use 3M VHB tape whenever possible, but I use the type designed for outdoor use (even inside). Contact 3M and they can answer your question, as it might not be designed for outdoor use.

They are sold as marine hardware so I have to assume they are fine for outside.
I am trying to design an alternative to the metal/plastic rockguard originally on the Ventura front window. I would like to make a reinforced fabric cover (outdoor or marine fabrics) that will become an awning when camping but need something to secure the cover well on the sides of the window. I would use these with heavy duty dome snaps, also marine grade. Since these are available in white, they would not be too noticeable when the cover is in awning mode. Alternatives would be 3M industrial white velcro which uses the same backing or metal stud type grommets put into the window's metal frame with holes along the edges of the fabric.

I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We have had some extremely cold winters here. Several years ago I purchased a bra system with a winter front for my Jeep Wrangler. The winter front snapped onto the front of the Jeep with these snaps. The male part was mounted on the surface of the Jeep and the female part of the snap was on the quilted fabric cover that went over the grill. I used this system for almost a decade with no problems. It survived the weather and the car washes. I think it's worth trying.

Patricia, can you advise where you purchased these, or if online sourcecd a link or actual name to search. I've never seen or heard of these but have several uses I'm considering!

Online at Outdoor Fabrics Canada. They have all kinds of goodies though a bit pricey.

I have not ordered these yet so cannot speak to the customer service or shipping costs and I could not find them elsewhere online. Perhaps Carol knows another source.

I have no source info. The snaps came with the bra kit for mounting purposes. I can't remember where we got the kit and I don't know the brand name. The stud looked just like the ones in the kit though.

Use the keywords "YKK Snads". That is one of the more widely available brands of this item. Yes they do work, you can see videos on youtube about installing them from the Sailrite company. They are adhered with 3M VHB tape which comes preinstalled on the back of the fittings. There are several styles, some are all plastic and others have a metal snap fitting on them. The flexible disc with metal snaps and stud fittings can be ordered with a clear color or white base. The clear base makes for a minimal looking application versus the larger solid plastic pieces. For fiberglass gel coat you just need to clean the surface with alcohol. On other surfaces you may need to apply a primer from 3M before you stick them in place.

In Seattle I can walk into the store and buy them off the display rack at "Fisheries Supplies" in the Fremont neighborhood.

I was just about to order from this online company when I came across a BBB report indicating that they are not accredited and customer reviews state that orders have not been sent but money has been taken. I am surprised by this since the website is substantial and has the feel of a legitimate business.
I will post information if I can find another source.

K. Corbin, do you know anything about this brand ? The description states that they use an adhesive 3M backing,not specifying VHB. Most reviews are positive with proper preparation being the crucial element. Less pricey than the snad.

I guess that serves as a reminder to all of us to be careful with online vendors. Most are reliable but still it pays to do research and get recommendations.

I had a really negative experience with those guys. Their website seems substantial, and they even generate a seemingly official order confirmation, but everything about it smells fishy: eg. their website says send an email for customer service — then an auto-generated email replies telling you to go to their website for customer service; Google earth shows an obviously closed bay in some industrial district, etc. I only got my order, 5 weeks later, after I threatened to report them to the local police.

My opinion? Stay away.
