I recently returned from a hot rod show/swap meet and while there I picked up a really cool plastic template for measuring 5-stud wheels. I know there's been discussion on the forums about what bolt pattern a member's trailer wheel has and several members have assisted by giving methods for measuring (Tires n Rims). But this template is so easy to use. I traced the plastic template, scanned it in, placed the numbers, created the PDF and placed it in the document center.

You'll find it here: Manuals - Axles and Running Gear

To use it, just print it out at 100%, poke holes through the four circles at the top 4 3/4,
4 1/2, 5 1/2, 5 and the larger center circle. Place one of the studs through one of those holes and start rotating to see what circles line up. You may have to try all four holes to find out precisely what pattern the wheel has. Slick.

I'm on the hunt for a 4-Stud template

Looks good, Donna.

When you print this make sure you are set to print it at 100% size. Anything else and will not get good results.

Donna, that was the link for the related discussion topic again, I think you meant to put in Manuals - Axles and Running Gear

Also, remember to cut out the centre hole as well as the bolt holes, so you be able to get the template on past the protruding hub enough to reach the studs.

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.

Here's a custom FGRV template I've made for 4- and 5- stud hubs.

Those PCD diameter templates are very useful, but they depend on the accuracy with which they've been made. If you just 'poke' the holes on a paper-based template, it's very hard to be sure if it measures accurately.

So I prefer to measure the PCD directly with a tape or ruler. For a 5-stud hub, a conversion is needed between the measurement taken and the real PCD - I've included that on the first page of the template.
