5th wheel hitch set up

I am picking up my 1987 5th wheel next weds. Can't wait. He says the hitch is in a 150 pickup so I guess I have to buy a 42" cross member or can I just cut off from both sides of the larger one?
Thanks
Gary C

You need to find out what brand it is, then you may be able to buy a new set of universal rails for it. The last time I traded trucks I was going to have the dealer swap my rails to the new truck, but they realized that the mounting bolts to the frame were a one time use bolt so they just installed new rails in the new truck. What I'm saying is you may not be able to get all of the hitch from the guy.

Ours is bolted to the frame through the box with the cross bar. Took Scamp about an hour to install it in our Tundra. Pretty simple set up and doesn't take much space.

If it's a Scamp, it's not a true 5th wheel but a gooseneck. This may make a difference for your application.
