80 Duo Therm heater

I have a 1980 Trillium 4500 with a Duo Therm gas furnace. It works, it just has a thermostat problem, I think..If I short across the two thermostat wires at the gas valve it fires right up.. Does anyone know if it's worth investing in a new thermostat? or Should I just scrap it as some say it's dangerous..If you know anything I should know, please advise. Thank you Tobin

A new thermostat at any hardware store should be less than $20.00.
If it were mine I'd try a new thermostat.

I've picked up new replacements for around $10...

The Duo-Therm furnaces in my trailers don't use an electric thermostat. They have a bulb style temperature sensor.
